The most formal and traditional design for a wedding is the morning suit in black or dark-neutral colours. This consists of a morning coat with matching waistcoat and trousers. Traditional morning suit trousers and vests should ideally be tailored from the same colour cloth as the morning coat and the waistcoat, however, more modern variations do include different styles and colours.  Pair this suit with a dress shirt with either a turndown or wing collar that is single or double cuffed.

As a morning coat will be heavier than a regular suit jacket or tuxedo, a three-piece (a tailcoat, waistcoat and trousers) is a better option rather than just a jacket and trousers. This enables you to remove the jacket during the reception and a waistcoat will give you an extra layer to look formal without feeling uncomfortable.

Morning suits are usually worn for morning/midday/early afternoon weddings.

The morning suit has evolved over the years; in 1895, the lapels were tiny, notched and slim, in 2017 they are wider and peaked. Collars used to be stiff and standing, now they are only rarely stiff but turned down most of the time. With a bespoke suit, we can take all these factors into consideration and create your perfect wedding suit.

Whether you need a morning suit, a stylish three-piece suit or something semi-formal for an outdoor wedding, a tailor-made suit will allow you to have input into the cut, style, weight of cloth and colour. Morning suits are not just for weddings. Generally, the all mid grey morning suit is predominantly spotted at the Epsom Derby and Royal Ascot. Since the morning suit is not as formal as its black counterpart, it is sometimes tailored with a less formal two button front or even a pocket which is incorporated into the horizontal seam.
